Day Eight

First part of today’s lecture was about democracy, the most interesting topic in today’s world. The brief definition of democracy according to most dictionaries is “the government from people for people”. Everyone talk about democracy because it is very nice in theory and everyone likes it, however there is no democracy with its exact definition in today’s world. The obvious example of that is in election time, all around the world before election all the candidates says the good thing to encourage the people to vote, but after election, most of the time everything is the same as before!
I can tell about my own experience, I came from the country, which has so many political problems. Everyone in my country fights for democracy but they do not know why they do that! Government try to show its respect to the democracy, which is not exist anymore! The media are controlled or sometimes closed for what they say or writing. If someone has a different believes he will punish for his believes. The funniest thing is most of the people does not like this system and government.
But it was not like this in 28 years ago. Twenty eight years ago everyone knows my country and wants to visit it as a beautiful and reach country; also it was the most powerful country in that area. But what happen? In just 28 years everything is changed? After revolution, a radical government took the power and controlled people under the name of democracy and religion. So the question is ,religion has a problem or democracy?
In addition, I met several people who are thinking there is no car in my country and people riding the camel in streets!!!
That is very sad but it is true, the media and generally, communication technology in these days are one of the powerful tools in politicians’ hand. How can I say one by one to all the people I will meet, that the first civilisation came from my country, or I miss the fashion and technology like fast internet and variety of software, when there are so many negative things in news and media about my country? That is to say, for politic reasons the best thing for washing the people’s brain is media.
And nowadays by developing the technology, the communication between people and exchanging news are so easy and fast. If in 50 years ago people was sitting in coffee shops and talking about politics, today hundred of links and weblogs are exchanging their idea in one minute. And the theories, such as free speech and global democracy, can be real by using these technologies.
Day Seven
Today’s lecture was about a very interesting topic which was electric music. Before talking about electronic music, i would like to mention that music itself is one of the most form of communication, communication between cultures, communication between past and now. Music is like a international language which can be understand by anyone in all around the world. Musician can send his feeling and also his culture to all the people hearing his music with different languages and different cultures.
However, technology is developing so fast and it is used in all different area including music. By using the electronic technology to making sound, a new form of music, which is called electronic music, is introduced. It is not just a form of music, any sound that can be create by electronic instruments can be categorised as an electronic music. That is to say a new generation of music production was created.
One of the interesting things about music is, when a form of technology like television or internet is created and sent for example to another country, the culture of using that technology is sent as well. But for music, the cultures take the music and change it and use it as their culture, like a Asian or African version of music. However, electronic music is based on the electric sounds and is more refer to kind of dance music with powerful special effects.
